buzzing noise when pluged into car charger - charger or ipod at fault?

I purchased the USB power charger PowerJolt and the Auxiliary Audio Cable (3.5mm stereo-mini connector cable) on Saturday.

When I try to use the car charger in conjunction with my cars AUX in port using the Griffin Auxiliary 3.5mm stereo-mini connector cable, I get a very noticeable and unplesant buzzing noise as soon as I plug in the car charger. If I unplug the charger and just leave the mini cable plugged in the buzzing goes away and everything is clear.

Is the charger I purchased defective?

Is there something wrong with the ipod?

Is there anything I can do to help with the noise?

Probably a ground loop (but there are other possibilities). The standard solution is an isolator. This one is frequently recommended:
