Nano stuck on ipod diagnostics screen.

My ipod nano will not respond. There is no light on the screen, but when you look closely, it reads 'ipod diagnostics' and has a whole list of tests underneath. I have plugged it into my PC, and it does not register, charge or light up. Can any one please help me with this problem. I have only had it for 4 weeks.

Thank you for the response, Jeff. I read the article.

Unfortunately, the "Disk Scan" is not the same as the "Diagnostics."

Diagnostic Mode is described here:
http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/

I'm guessing that the buttons got smashed when the Nano was stuffed in a bag without the Hold switch engaged, and so the iPod freaked out & crashed.

The symptoms:
- completely unresponsive to all buttons (Menu+Play reset trick doesn't work)
- connecting iPod USB to a PowerBook yields nothing; the iPod USB device doesn't even show up in the Apple System Profiler
- the iPod screen faintly shows a diagnostic menu

I'm thinking it needs to be returned to Apple for repair/replacement.
