dots instead of the song countdown or volume bar

does anyone know why there are 5 little dots where the song countdown bar used to be, I also dont see my volume bar when I change volume? can I fix this? what does this mean?

The "dots" are for rating your songs. Just tap the center button(in the middle of the click wheel) to cycle through until you see the time progress bar.

it is the rating option. Just like in iTunes you can rate your songs. Try the click wheel when you see the dots... You get there by clicking the center button a couple of times.

If it's somehow stuck on the ratings selection (it won't go back to the volume after you press the select button), you might try resetting it. Hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset.
