Why Can't I Print My Score?

Suddenly I can't print anything.

Everything just comes up blank in preview or saved as PDF or just sent directly to the printer.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

try to create a new user or delete some system printing preferences...

if printing does not work only with Logic, export you KC, quit Logic and drag the Logic preference to trash

hope this help

I am sure Rohan's suggestion is worth exploring but Fermusic .. I think you are on the wrong track

Before anything else try this:

Go to *File>Page Setup* where you will find a box with a percentage. Printing blank sheets occurs when that setting is somehow set too small. For some weird reasons it defaults to 2% when it needs to be closer to 100%

if you delete logic preference everything goes to default... and on my system priting Score as PDF pages works perfect with default setting...
so if something like printing setting goes to a wrong way there may be other hidden problems ... so deleting preferences and reset everything to default is in any case a good thing, better and faster than manually set as default only one setting, on my experience.

(export your key Commands before deleting Logic preferences)

only if the project setting has been changed on individual song... printing score will be different for ONLY that specific song.

(so if the issue happens on every song.... deleting preference could be the correct way)

Anyway thanks for the declaration of your (OP) thoughts ...
(seems a bet, but I do not ever bet ... just trying to help)

Before anything else try this:

Why you are so interested to do your suggestion *before deleting preferences and/or anything else?....*
Maybe I know why, and you ?

Who will be the winner? 😉

good luck

I did try deleting the preferences. Sorry, fermusic, but it didn't work. I also looked at the scale setting as per Rohan's suggestion and, unfortunately, that didn't work either.

The score sits there very nicely in the window. Everytime I go to file>print and chose save as PDF (or just preview), I get a blank document saved or to look at. I also sent it direct to printer and got three blank pages for my trouble.

Once again, I'm away from my studio and can't try musicspirit's suggestion, but I will later this afternoon. I admit that I did not notice any box with percentage in it.

Thanks very much guys. I do appreciate your efforts to assist. (The strangest part is that I never had this problem before. I think that it's related to upgrading to 10.5.5, but I'm hoping to fix it without erasing my HD and going back a system or two.)

All the best

if all suggestions does not work the problem is in the System.

but... have you tried also by create a new user?
...is the first point on my first post!

the musicspirit's suggestion is here
User uploaded file
User uploaded file
-----

it is a System preferences setting (so it should be affected any applications and Any Printer.
So try to creat a new user... Maybe you need to delete some system preference!

fermusic .. man.. you should chill out a bit - this is not a competition.... 🙂

If you trash the preferences do you not have to go through all the Score Project Settings and reset them all? Layout, Numbers and Names.. many menus and details that would take a lot of time to re-set ( certainly in my system as most regular scores users have a lot of specific settings here).

Deleting preferences and exporting Key Commands is a *last resort* - you are misdirecting the OP's time to suggest this before trying my suggestion which applies directly to the problem he is having and which could solve his printing problem in about 2 seconds. What if there is nothing else wrong with his system? If my suggestion doesnt work then by all means try a lengthier one

PS yo fermusic ... an excellent graphic - as usual .. you remember I complimented you before.. so lets not get too cross with each other - peace

Again, thank you for your posts.

Okay, I've trashed all prefs (twice, actually - not that big a deal in my system). I've checked the scale and it says 100%. Still nothing, but here's an interesting phenomenon; If I change the scale to at least 200%, then I get something showing up. It won't fit the page, of course, but at least there are some notes to be printed. Anything less than that - that is, less than 200%, blank pages.

It is definitely a Logic problem - print and preview work fine in other programs. But I can't print anything out of any Logic project.

I may have to just reinstall Logic.

Any other suggestions? (Except creating a new user. Sorry fermusic, but I don't think that's the answer here)

All the best

Competion?
I don't think so..
I just explain with graphics your suggestion...

so you could be the winner 😉

Layout, number are song setting inside logic preferences project
if you delete Logc preferemces the song never will be affected by any change

seems that you don't understand... I'm talking about deleting Printer drivers preferences
this is the first my advice...
because print option is not Logic function... so, creating a new user could be a good idea in order to understand where is locoted the printing ERROR!

It is a common feature of the system that is shared by all applications!!!

PS yo fermusic ... an excellent graphic - as usual .. you remember I complimented you before.. so lets not get too cross with each other - peace

you are welcome... because My first directive is not the competition ... but it is to achieve a good result ...
I am not "errors free man"
but I know that these errors can help you (and maybe also me) to achieve a better result.

regards
fermusic...

PS:
... but a winner there must be ... because this is stimulating for creativity ... the reasons are important! (just my opinion)
A fair competition is always desirable.

if you don't want try to create a new user...
the next advice is...

Unistall all Printers drivers and delete printer preferences (for doing that you need to activate ROOT USER)
disconnect the device

Which is your printer?

Go to the support of your printer and search for the new driver...

NEVER INSTALL OS PRINTER DRIVER FROM THE OS X INSTALLATION DISK!!!
they are not the latest version... and never will be updated from Apple!!!
(you save also about 1.5gb of disk space

if after deleting all info about your printer Logic cannot give you a perfect PDF of your scores

Archive and Install your system...
or if you want to be sure about everything works has always happen on my system from many Years (2005) (Just Yesterday I make 2 copy of my last song by using an Old Canon S400 printer.. for my Violas duet)
FORMAT YOUR DISK AND MAKE A FRESH INSTALLATION... because there is a System problem in your computer.

I'm sorry Paul but this is not a Logic issue... or, IF YES, you have a bad Logic version (but, I cannot believe that you are so unlucky person)... because here every score can be printed without any problem from over than 3 Years on my G5 and from over than 15 Years of the use of any Logic version running on all my previous Macs!

I had this issue before the latest update. First check you are using the latest version.

before the latest update of what?

Printer drivers?
Logic pro?
OSX?

I think the issue is different

Paul can print only blank page.... the same result... on PDF and on his printer

it is not a ONLY PDF printing problem...

please Paul can you tell something about your printer
there is a real printer connected in your Mac?

I can also suggest you to RESET THE P-RAM of your mac

Hi all

Problem solved. I gave dmacintyre a star although that wasn't exactly the solution, it was certainly the closest and give me the clue that finally fixed my problem.

I somehow didn't have the Bonjour driver checked for the printer (through airport) that I ordinarily use. Once I switched, problem all gone.

I really appreciate your help. I'm not sure that I would have stumbled on the answer as quickly as I did without your various suggestion.

Best regards to you all

Paul
