Getting Music Videos to appear in Movies folder in iTunes 8.0.1

Slightly odd problem when upgrading to iTunes 8.0 it moved some of my music videos into the Movies Library but not all of them. I have located a folder entitled Movies within the iTunes Music Folder which contains some of the movies that appear in the library but again not all of them. Trying to copy missing movies into the folder appears to have no impact to the library. I have tried also to change the file via quicktime from m4v to mov but again has made no difference.

Has anyone else come across this problem and is there a solution whereby I can get the Movie Library to pick up all movies in the iTunes music folder? Even better can you create your own Library hierarchy so that I could create one for Music Videos as opposed to having it all lumped under Movies. This would make far more sense when using the Apple Remote.

Note I have created a smart playlist to pick up all the stray movies but it is not as satisfactory a solution as to have it all in the top library. And I cannot make head or tail of why some appear in the library and others don't (note the issue ironically appears to be with the videos downloaded off the store as p.o. an album as opposed to ones that came free with a cd).

Any assistance much appreciated.

hi LeighBarton,

first, you have to know how iTunes is defining with Music, Music Video and Movies. This distinction is made on each files by a tag. Select any files in iTunes, right-click on it and select "Get Info". Then, select the "option" tab. There you will see a drop down list called "Media Kind". This is this list that will determined if the file is a Music Video or a Movies.

If you want to move a video from your iTunes Library source to the Movie sources, simply change this on the drop down list I mention. This will moves the files accordingly between folders. Movies are kept by iTunes in the Movies folder but Music Video are consider as any songs and will be classified in the Artist folder.

iTunes could not detect a new file if you place it using the Finder. Simply drag whatever files you want to add to your library directly to your iTunes Windows. If you set iTunes preferences to keep your library managed and to copy files when adding them, it will be place accordingly to the tag you will set later on by the "Get info" method explained.

You could not change the way iTunes works with video. Music Videos will be embedde with all your song but you can see them using the smart playlist called "Music Videos". Movies and TV Show are kept seperate.

I hope this clarified how to manage your media files.
