FCP or Adobe Premier - Win or Mac

i am trying to figure out what to do here, should I buy a Mac,
and use Final Cut Pro or should i use my current computer {WinXP(quadcore) - 2GB Ram - 24" LCD about 2.5 TB storage}
and purchase Adobe products

edit h.264 files packaged in AVI container
edit DV from regular and HD cams
edit mpeg2
convert codecs (divx, xivd, mpeg2, . . )
upload highest quality possible for AppleTV, iPods, DVDs and eventually Blue Ray DVDs
any suggestions?
I would have to spend about $3000 for the switch
any suggestions?

I'd suggest sticking with what you have and using Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere)
For the non broadcast formats you want to work with and the nature of what you want to do then its probably your best bet (and I'm not suggesting the Adobe's product is no good for broadcast work but rather that it is supposed to be particularly good with its native handling of these non broadcast formats).

Well, just about anyone here will of course be a Mac supporter, so you may want to post this over at the Cow or 2-Pop forums to get a less biased answer. That having been said, looking at your list of requirements, either setup will do most of these things. The exceptions:
-You'd want to convert your AVI-wrapped files to something more Mac-friendly before editing with them in FCS2, which may not be the case with Premiere.
-FCS2 will likely do a better job with transcoding to Mac-based formats (iPod, AppleTV, etc).
-FCS2 cannot author to Blu-Ray Disc, while Adobe Encore can (though the results aren't spectacular).

Since this is the FCP forum, I say you want to stick with your PC and upgrade the Adobe products. Stick with what you know.

Keep your eye on the spinning hourglass. You're getting sleepy.

Forget the Macintosh, you will never like the OS.
Forget FCP and the studio apps, you will never like how the interfaces work because you will never like the OS.

You're getting sleeeeeepy.
Follow my advice.
The other guys don't know what they're talking about, you must not listen to them.

If I know that i already like OS would you recommend the change?
I ask this because i worked on OSx for about a year, was a apple/mac person from '77 to '95, never been a unix person (other than when i worked on OSX) but work on a linux (ubuntu) box all day at work (lots of bash).
I guess the main thing i am trying to figure out is if the only reason for me to stick with windows is that I have that investment in the hardware already and the video editing capabilities, (not a big fan of A/V on linux other than ffmpeg.mencoder.mplayer, but no real decent V-Edit program)

Looking for a few more opinions, . . .

I don't care what system you buy.
We can't make up your mind and for you to ask us how we would spend your money is, at best, irresponsible and, at worst, silly.
These are business and personal financial decisions.
This is not the place to ask anyone to compare editing platforms or operating systems. Reviews of these tools are all over the place. We're not blindly endorsing FCP but we are deeply invested in our Macs and FCP. You WILL get some questions form us that you need to consider.
Do your research, evaluate your risks, assess your potential to recover your investment and make an intelligent decision based on your needs and abilities.

I'll be here to help you use FCP if that's what you buy.
