iMovie and Sony HDR-HC3

Anybody solved the same problem recently?
I run everything in manual -- to include the camcorder output settings where mixed formats are concerned.

I had the same problem. Bought new HDR-HC3, put a tape in it that had been partially recorded on my older non HD mini dv sony camcorder. When I play tape through iMovie, I get blue screen, except for parts recorded on new camcorder in hi def.

Here is the solution: In camera mode on the HDR, set the record setting to DV (not HD). Then it will play fine in iMovie. This seems odd, since this setting is for recording and not playback? However, once I set the camera record mode to to DV, it works fine with iMovie. I have not experimented yet with the portion of the tape recorded in hidef on the new camera, but I assume if I have problems, I will just reset the setting back to hidef recording and it will work OK. Hope this helps.

That does not solve the problem as it makes only makes the camera record in SD mode. and with that you don't need an HDV camcorder.

However somewhere in the menus of the camera there is an option that convertes the hdtv out to dv out. you have to switch this off. its called something with convertion i.link - this has do be deactivated. i guess this is what confuses imoview as it expects hdv footage and only gets SD footage... still apples fault.

Pelouse, I agree I got a Sony HDR-HC3, I was able to capture all movies in Final Cut Pro 6 and iMovie 08 et 07....but after iMovie 09, the camcorder is not loaded anymore.
It is the same in Skype, the Camcorder is not listed.....

I wouldn't worry too much about that. No miniDV format camcorders that connect with Firewire are listed by name. Why? Because they mostly all work.

My Hc3's (I've got two) both work in iMovie '09 as well as in Final Cut Express HD....and they both capture in HD....Sorry I don't know what you might try to remedy the problem...

On Final Cut Express HD do you need to select specific set up as it is on FC Pro where you should define some parameters of your CamCorder ?

I believe that my HC3 is probably unable to active its DV-out function.
Because I used to remember that each time I have connected it at my macs the logo DV-out appears.

Here is what I have done. I'm curious if the following action reduces the quality of future footage or simply allows the mac to import the footage. It did solve the "blue" screen problem. I can now import video - I just don't know if it is HD yet.

1. In camera mode, select P-menu
2. Select Menu
3. Select Standard setSelect i>link Conv
4. Select off

The change of the iLink output did it! It should have no difference in quality since the camera is outputting in HD not converting HD to DV...thanks!!!!!!!
