Multi Sim Card in Germany

I am not 100% sure about voice mail; check out the article on Mulisim on t-mobile.de (enter multisim as a keyword for a search and you will reach the article).

There it says, that although all phone will work in terms of internet and telephone functions, sms and mms features can only be activated for one card at a time. I tend to believe, this may be true for visual voice mail, too; though since I am still waiting for my Multisim card, can't tell yet.

For this month (October 2008) t-mobile is offering mulitsim cards for free, so if you do not have one yet, there is at least no financial risk of getting one and trying it out.

What is a multi sim card?

Basically, it is a "clone" sim card to your original sim, allowing you to use more than one phone or data periphreal with the same number/contract at a time. Since they are assigned the same number, you cannot place calls from one card to a phone containing a multisim of that number; also, only one of the sims (if you have multisims) can be assigned to send / receive sms and mms.

T-Mobile of Germany does allow you to use your iphone contract with other data periphreals on your data plan, so you could, unless you were lucky to get Netshare in time, get something like a G3 usb modem and use a mulitsim in this one, while leaving your original sim in the iphone.

Or put the multi sim (the second sim) in these new cars that take a GSM sim card - to take and receive calls while in the car. Which is prob why it exist in Germany, as the cars are starting to have them, and I have always wondered why you would get a second sim with a different number to use in the car... now I know....

in case there was a misunderstanding: a multisim does NOT have a different phone number. Best described like (in analog terms) hooking several phone to one line: They all ring and dial out with the same number.

Cars are an issue, especially since you are fined in Germany, if phoning without a speakerphone.
