".WMV Files"

Someone sends me an email with a Movie with a ".wmv" file extension. Macintosh provides a version of MS Media Player which will play the file on my Mac. How do I play it on my iPhone 3G?

iPhone 3G, OS 2.1iPhone

I, also, advise against windows media player...can actually cause conflicts on your mac.
I haven't used the easy wma thing, but it sounds like it's for audio, and may not do video. Maybe there's an "easy wmv" version.
If not, try Flip4Mac, but to convert stuff with that, you have to pay for the upgraded version. If you do that sort of thing often, it's worth it.
There's a site which says it will convert formats of video HERE. Might work for you.

.wmv is a microsoft proprietary format-nothing to do with Apple.
Microsoft abandoned support for the Mac-there is no current microsoft media player.

Someone above mentioned flip4mac-it is currently the only solution officially supported by MS for .wmv playback on the Mac. They have a paid for version of their program that supposedly offers the ability to convert .wmv's-I do not use it so I have no opinion of it.

I know of no free solutions to do this since Microsoft owns the codec and charges licensing fees for anything that can create them.

Good luck.

I think EasyWMA supports both video and audio, but I use the paid version of Flip4Mac, and it works decently.

Safari for iPhone gives the impression that it supports plugins, but it doesn't seem like plugin development has really gotten serious yet (possibly because Apple may not have provided all the tools developers need yet). But if plugins do start picking up momentum, then in addition to a Flash plugin, Flip4Phone would be pretty cool. 🙂
