Printer Canon Pixma MP620, Wifi problem

I have a new Canon Pixma printer mp620 (USB / LAN / wifi)
I can not get the printer with the wifi ?
It works well with USB cable directly on the iMac!
This printer is used in a wireless network with a Windows XP computer with a wireless modem router USRobotics
What is wrong with the iMac ?

Tips: the printer works well in wireless with the PC WinXP

Canon doesn't propose new driver on www.canon.com !

Thank you in advance ...

I seem to be having similar problems, and have read through all of these comments, but still having issues. Maybe someone could help?

I've followed the Canon guide to a 'T' and every step has been a success up to the measuring of wireless performance (step 5), which finds a strong signal. I hit "Finish" and the Printer Setup Utility & Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector launch. However, the Canon MP620 series printer does not show up in the printer utility, although the machine's on, connected wirelessly, there's no firewall and no access filtering. No printer is found under the default or "more printers." Any thoughts?

I also have a similar problem. However, my setup had previously worked seamlessly for 10 months.
My Canon Pixma is connected via USB to Airport Extreme (n), along with ADSL Modem. All of a sudden, the printer would not respond, even with a test page. So I deleted the printers and downloaded a new Canon Pixma driver, installing it. Now my MacBook Pro recognises the printer normally if directly connected via USB, but does not recognise it at all via the network. I have tried several of the suggestions above, including the "Utility" button and selecting "Network" instead of USB, but nothing appears in the Network window...
Not really sure why it's a dud after all this time.

This one has me stumped as well. I have read several replies and tries from PaHu (they are detailed and concise) but it hasnt helped me at all I get to the point where I add the printer and nothing will appear in the setup window n the Canon IJ Network Tool. The printer is in my print & fax prefs and I can see it as my default printer. But it will not show up on the Network Tool. It must be another setting that I do not have correct. The thing that really baffles me is the Canon online "Easy Setup Instructions" indicate that the printer "kind" should be canonijnetwork but mine says bonjour. Dont know anyway to turn off bonjour or if that should even be necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello John,

To configure the network settings in the MP620, you must first have it connected to your Mac via USB. If you have successfully installed the software, when you connect the printer via USB, a printer queue should automatically be created in your printer list. If the queue has not automatically been created, then you will need to add the printer by selecting the Default view, highlighting the printer - which should then result in the Print Using menu changing to Canon IJ Printer.

With the USB printer queue appearing in your printer list, you can select it and then choose to 'Open Printer Queue". With the queue open, click the Utility icon. This will open another window with a heading of Printer List. You should see a menu at the top that lets you select USB, and wit it set to USB you should see the MP620. On the bottom of the Printer List window is another tab called Network Settings. Select this button and you will be prompted to enter the relevant wired or wireless address settings. Once you have entered the correct details, you can turn off the printer and unplug the USB cable. You can then turn the printer back on and now try to add the printer by selecting More Printers > Canon IJ Network. If you have configured the printer correctly it should appear in this window with its MAC address (a series of numbers inside some brackets) displayed.

Since you mention Bonjour in your psoting, this would indicate that you have the printer connected via USB to another Mac or Airport device. Is this the case?

Just got my new Pixma MP620 sitting right in front of me (and my macbook) and I seem to be experiencing a wierd problem. I've read the setup instructions carefully and followed every step (usb cable still connected and all). When my macbook restarts and the Canon IJ Network Tool launches, it displays my access point correctly.

Now, this is an ASUS WL500-family access point (802.11g + WPA). I enter the network password requested, and each time a window pops up saying "Searching for printers via accesspoint" but eventually giving up "The printer could not be connected to the accesspoint". Does anyone know what's causing this error? Something in my setting, perhaps? MAC filtering is disabled

The weird thing is, when I click "Network Information" in the IJ Network Tool with my access point selected, the printer appears to have communicated with the AP to obtain an IP address, but the link and signal appear to be 0%:

Wireless LAN
(23)Wireless LAN Enabled . . : YES
(24)Standard . . . . . . . . : 802.11g
(25)AirPort ID . . . . . . . : 00:00:85:EB:CD:3C

(26)Network Type . . . . . . : Infrastructure
(27)SSID . . . . . . . . . . : LivingLab
(29)Encryption ON. . . . . . : YES
(30)Encryption Type. . . . . : TKIP
(31)Authentication . . . . . : WPA-Personal
(32)Attached Information . . : 27 character Passphrase

(33)Link Status. . . . . . . : Inactive
(34)Signal Level . . . . . . : 0%
(35)Link Quality . . . . . . : 0%

TCP/IP
(36)Mode . . . . . . . . . . : Auto
(37)IP Address . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5
(38)Subnet Mask. . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
(39)Router . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

The AP is sitting about a meter away from the printer and the macbook so I'm confused about this.

Greatly appreciate any tips! 🙂

Try turning the printer off, and unplugging the power cord for a couple of seconds, and then plug it back in and turn the printer back on. Note that before you turn it back on, ensure the USB cable is not connected between the printer and the Mac.

Once the printer is back on, go to the Settings menu on the printer and have a look at Device Settings > LAN Settings > Wireless LAN setting list. The first item in the menu shows connection and this should be Active. If it is, exit the menu and open the System Prefs > Print & Fax on the Mac. Click to Add, select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The MP620 should be shown with it MAC address in brackets. If it doesn't then pls reply.

I've now managed to fix this.

Some traffic analysis (and lots of trial and error and resets!) revealed the MP620 appears unable to properly communicate using WPA-PSK with TKIP with the ASUS WL-500W access point. The printer took several minutes to obtain an IP address using DHCP (I think it was close to 10 minutes) but is incapable of maintaining any sort of connectivity besides that.

The solution was to use WPA2-PSK with AES instead. I've verified that network printing and scanning work well in Leopard as well as Windows XP running using Boot Camp. It also works if you have an open access point (using suitable MAC filtering). I did not try WEP.

If the MP620 is like my MP980, then you can view the MAC via the control panel of the printer. Turn the dial to pliers (settings), click OK, then turn the dial to device settings and click OK. Now change to LAN settings, OK, then view wireless settings. OK then scroll down. You will see the MAC address here.

I am having similar troubles with the installation of my new Canon MP620. I've gone through the setup, and get to the point where the setup monitors performance, and it says it cannot connect the router and printer. On the printer, when I look at Wireless LAN settings, it says it is Active. I've added the printer on the iMac using Print and Fax. When I go to Utility, it appears under Network with a Mac address. When I choose the printer and click Network Settings, it says Printer Connection failed.

Any suggestions? I'm going crazy trying to get this to work!

Thanks-

I have followed all your advice PaHu but still cant seem to connect it keeps telling my "searching for printers via access point (network id)" then after several minutes I get another pop up window that says "access point connection- the printer could not be connected to the specified access point" and this is with the correct password entered and the printer itself states its inactive.. any help??

I wonder if you have a similar issue to what Bilhanan describes in this posting. What brand of wireless router do you have? And what type of security is being used?

FYI - I have an Airport network at home and my iP5200R is connected to this network using WEP. At work, I have a NetGear wireless (cannot remember the model) which is set to WPA2 Personal, and the Canon wireless printers have no issue connecting to this network also.
