Printer Canon Pixma MP620, Wifi problem

I have a new Canon Pixma printer mp620 (USB / LAN / wifi)
I can not get the printer with the wifi ?
It works well with USB cable directly on the iMac!
This printer is used in a wireless network with a Windows XP computer with a wireless modem router USRobotics
What is wrong with the iMac ?

Tips: the printer works well in wireless with the PC WinXP

Canon doesn't propose new driver on www.canon.com !

Thank you in advance ...

My MP 620 works great with my iMac and MacBook. It was critical that I followed the installation directions from Canon for a Mac. The manual is a little hard to follow as it skips pages based on your installation type. Disconnect the USB cable, remove the printer in Print & Fax in System Prefs (Click on Canon printer, then the minus sign). Now follow the installation directions exactly. After the software install, the iMac will restart. The Canon network utility should start automatically so you can configure the wireless setup of the printer. Hope this helps!

I had the same problem. Try this. After installing the Canon software per their instructions, open System Preferences-Hardware-Print & Fax. Click on the + button to add a printer. This is probably where you got hung up before since the pixma printer doesn't show up. Click on the "More Printers" button at the bottom of the Printer Browser window. This will open another window. Click on the drop-down menu at the top of this window (when I first opened this window Appletalk was selected), and select Canon IJ Network. If everything goes well, the MP620 series.../Canon IJ Printer will pop up. Select it and click on the "Add" button at the bottom of the window. This should add your Canon printer as a wifi printer to the printer list, enabling you to print wirelessly. Hope this works for you like it did for me.

I hope it worked for the others - it did for me. My new Epson TX700W worked first try on the Bootcamped XP but not the Mac. I did as suggested by sgtracy and saw my printer OK, clicked + and it then found the Epson followed by(IP). Once I made this the default everthing works fine whichever partition I print from. Thanks for the tip sgtracy.

If you want to connect to the MP620 via wireless, then the instructions are stating that you need to have your wireless access point (the wireless router) ready and you need to know some information about the router, such as its SSID (its name) and any password you will need to connect to it.

The setup is pretty easy. It's just the manual tries to cover too many options.

First you must have the printer driver installed and be connected to it via USB. This is so you can communicate with the printer to configure the network (LAN) settings.

With the printer appearing in the Printer list, you can open the printer queue and select Utility. From the new window, select the Printer shown as a USB device and click the Network tab. This will guide you through connecting it to your wireless network. This is where you need to know your access point information. Once the printer is connected to your wireless network, you will be prompted to turn off the machine and then unplug the USB cable. When you turn the printer back on, you can then add the printer queue again, this time for the network connection. As others have said above, select to Add then select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The MP620 should appear in the list, which you select and then click Add. Now you are ready to print...

Thanks PAHU,
I've been desperately trying to figure out why this wouldn't connect with my network, and you answered it perfectly. I thought being wireless, I wouldn't have to connect the USB cable, but I did to transfer the settings. I kept trying to add the mac address myself to my network. It's working fine now. Thanks again.

Hi There. Just bought the Pixma Mp620 tonight and so
far everything seems to work but the scanner, which is
a major reason we bought it. We have it connected
wirelessly to our network at home and we can print
from our laptops (docs and photos) but the scanner
gives us a communication error that states - "Cannot
communicate with scanner. Cable may be
disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check
status. Scanner driver will be closed". Any idea what it
could be? Will the scanner not work wirelessly? Does it need to be directly connected
to the computer via USB for the scanner to work?

It sounds like your Mac is trying to scan via USB rather than via the network. If you look at the menu bar, there should be an icon on the same side as the time, time machine, etc, that is the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility (it's a strange icon so I am not sure how to describe it). It might be grayed-out if it is not configured. Click it and a menu will appear letting you turn the utility on. Via this icon you can also select 'Open Settings'. This will present a search window allowing you to locate the MP620. Once you add the MP620 to this list, you should be able to scan via your wireless network.

So I just picked up a brand new iMac and the MP620 printer as well. Tried following everyone's advice on here and the wireless connection just will not be made.

When hooked up to the USB port the printer is fine but wireless is a whole other story.

I've reinstalled the software, turned off the Firewall in my system preferences, removed an tried to add the printer back under the Printer & Fax area. I've had it hooked up to the USB while trying all this as well. I'm trying to get it to grab the Mac's built in Airport wireless signal, the gentleman at the Applestore stated it will work fine with that.

Now, am I missing a step? This thing has me stumped!

The guy in the Apple store was wrong. You cannot connect the printer directly to the Mac via wireless (Airport). This is called ad-hoc mode. The printer only supports infrastructure mode, where a base station provides the wireless service. So you will need some sort of wireless router, such as an Airport Express, between the Mac and the MP620.
