I have had a problem with color taking the first few seconds of a shot and adding it to the end of the previous shot. This has happened when I have sent one QT to color and made edits as well as sent edits from FCP. Am I hitting something in color that is doing this?

Does this shot have a time remap applied in FCP?
No, they are straight cuts.

Yes, probably the "edit" button. Three words: don't do it.
Although there may be other factors. Imbedded multiclips, sequences, stills like tgas, tifs and jpgs will cause erratic behaviour. Using the "split" button to create new events or cut up existing clips nearly always ends in tears. Needless to say the return trip is hooped if this came from FCP as A Send To...
Use the razor in FCP to create new events prior to sending to COLOR. DO NOT do any timeline/clip re-management in COLOR.

Generally, Color presents a warning box when attempting to modify a sequence sent from FCP.
This is one of those times to heed the warning and not just click-through the box.

Just as a follow-up... if you have to break up a clip once in COLOR,
A) struggle hard to resist doing it, or re-export the project and start again, or
B) use keyframes.

How about...
C) Do a second grade for the next shot (rather than adding an edit), render out both grades, and relink in FCP as necessary.
