How do I stop an operation?

I was attempting to load one photo from Iphoto to Photoshop Elements 6. From the time it is taking, so far 2 hours, I am assuming that it is attempting to load 4000 pictures. How do I stop the application. On my PC it was control, alt, delete. Any such thing on the IMac?

Hello Doubler, welcome to Apple Discussions.

To prematurely stop an application, in order of easiness;
1. Click and hold on the application's icon in the dock and select Quit.
or
2. Press Option + Command + Escape to open Force Quit. Select the app and force quit it.
or
3. Open Activity Monitor and quit the process.
