Safari losing cookies, forgetting logins

Suddenly Safari is losing all the logins for sites. Even though these sites have the 'remember me' boxes checked, every day I have to re-login to dozens of sites and forums. When this happens, before I start logging in, I check the cookies in prefs and there are zero cookies stored.

What's up with that?

I am having the exact same problem with Safari on my iBook, but not on any of my other computers.

I have the autofill turned on, and is there, sometimes.

Places like yahoo, espn, ebay, amazon where my login usually stays logged in, is making me re-enter after the window is closed.

Suggestions?

I'm with you, I have seen the autofill not autofill at least 50% of the time, or more, despite the site showing up in my list of sites/usernames . I send in reports all the time, but as usual, that accomplishes nothing... I don't know what to do, I keep hoping Safari will have an update that will finallly have autofill working more consistently

I have the same problem - safari never remembers any logins - despite the fact i have cookies on, autofill all done correctly (autofill hardly ever works so i've given up on that) but it is so annoying that it is practically unusable now because so many websites depend on your settings.
i read somewhere it had to do with a proxy server getting in the work and the solution was to enter them all in manually - but that just sounds insane to me!
Any ideas would be very appreciated as I really like Safari but have to use firefox for the time being...

Same problem here on an iMac. So frustrating. VERY frustrating. I, too, have all cookies on, I have autofill turned on, and yet it forgets settings. Is this a recent phenomenon? Has something changed that we don't know about? It really is desperate! Anyone out there with any better ideas? Please please help!
It isn't consistent- some sites it remembers, and some it forgets instantly. Some it forgets after a while and some... well, enough said. I have looked at the keychain page, and even that isn't consistent.

I love my iMac to bits, but I wish it wasn't doing this. it makes you frightened to go to a web-site as you have to spend time re-logging in. All the hype about speed of access to pages is rather negated by the delay in having to find a piece of paper and input all the relevant details. Some 'customized' web-pages appear in 're-set' mode almost instantly.
Patience is running out...........

The edit was to show that, having looked deeper into the Apple site, it appears there are many posts around the site with identical problems. Is there any way that one thread could encompass all the various items into one answer?

Is another (similar) thread. I followed the instructions posted, namely:-
*Try this:*

*Go to Safari Preferences>Autofill>User Names and Passwords>Edit. Remove the affected entries. Also, go to Safari Menu and "empty cache". Quit Safari.*

*Then open Keychain Access in your Utilities folder. Using the spotlight panel, remove the same entries. Next, go to the Keychain Menu and select "Keychain First-Aid". Run the "repair" function. If any error appears, rerun until you get a clean pass.*

*Quit Keychain Access. Start Safari. Go to the sites. Enter your User Name/PW. The password retention prompt will appear. Select it affirmatively. Log out from that site, then log-in again.*

Which seems to have made it work properly. I have shut the whole thing down and re-started it.

Good luck, I hope that this helps David. I hope that it has fixed mine and with thanks to the original poster Hawaiian Starman.

Sad, but true, I am dealing with the same problem. Safari has an amnesia each time I turn on my iMac. Autofill turned on, cache emptied and everything beyond and in between. Web Clips in Dashboard are affected as well on sites that require logging in. Can downloading Firefox really be the only solution? I don't want to give up Safari, but my fingers dare to disagree.

Hi! dramacat... wait a while and check... that's what I thought... "it's better!".. but it wasn't. It is still forgetting web-page set-ups, and, although it has the log-in data (sometimes already filled in) it doesn't go the whole way and actually log in! Very frustrating. From what I read, there are lots of nice people with this particularly nasty problem. On behalf of everyone that's added to this thread, thanks but "Hello Cupertino- is there anybody there?"

Best of luck to all concerned, and stay tuned to this thread, perhaps we might get an answer. the more fiddling we have to do, the greater the danger there is of messing something up!
