Help!!! iPod won't sync with iTunes, iTunes freezes!

Hello, I'm sorry if this topic is already in an other one, but I couldn't find it.

First of all, I'm very pleased with my iPod Classic 160Gb, finally I can carry my complete collection with me. Since I'd installed the 8.0.1 update for iTunes, my iTunes freezes immediately, and my iPod won't show up in iTunes, and the screen of the Classic is stuck on "Connected".
If I don't connect, iTunes works perfectly, even with my iPhone (Everything works smoothly).

What is the problem?, I've tried everything, Reboot iPod Classic 160 Gb, reïnstall iTunes (complete deinstallation), i tried different USB-ports of my laptop, other USB-cabel, reboot PC. All updates, even my USB-ports. Can somebody please tell me what's happening? And solve my problem?

I didn't found this same problem in any of other topics, if someone finds the same topic WITH an answer, I would be pleased.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my Classic 120G.

We bought three Ipods in the same week (this one and two Nanos for the kids)...the babies work GREAT, and mine was working great too, then it just STOPPED being recognized when I connected. The computer knows it's there (my computer shows it connected to the USB drive and properties claims it's working properly) bit iTunes doesn't "feel" it - and I cannot sync. When this problem first occured I did everything all the troubleshooting sites say (including rebooting it, so now there are zero songs on my iPod). It is INCREDIBLY frustrating. I wish that someone from Apple would tell me what to do. Furthermore, before this problem started, I had bought and installed a $30 Invisible Shield, so if there has to be a replacement or something, I'll lose that. Bugger. If anyone knows any fix (a new cord? something else?) please let me know!!!

hold down the menu button and the center button for about thirty seconds and it will prompt you to restore your ipod. Make sure the music is backed up, and restore it to factory settings. It should work from then on.

I have an 80 gig classic that was synced to the library that was on my old hard drive. I had to replace my drive with one so that I could partition my laptop for bootcamp. When i tried to get my ipod to sink with the same music in my new itunes library it never showed up. I typed "ipod classic won't show up in itunes" into google and clicked the link labeledd "My Ipod won't show up in Itunes? - Yahoo! Answers". I know im on a different operating system but I tried what it said anyway. It showed up and now it seems to be doing everything correctly now.

Hello,
It's me with the same problem, but with better discriptions.

I've got a serious problem with my iPod Classic.
When I want to connect with my PC (Vista HB), iTunes opens up, everything looks normal, but my iPod show up 'Connected', my computer is immediately slow and iTunes stops working, my iPod shows up in My Computer, but not in iTunes. Music and iTunes settings are on a external hard disk, which I've never had problems with. Everything is updated, even my USB-ports. When I take the cable out of my computer (Or from my iPod), he started to reboot (iPod), and then all music is still on it. My music is over the 80 gig, because I've heard rumors problems when you're music is over de 80 gigs. The problem started after I've installed the new update of iTunes 8.0.1. I used different cables, docks, ports. I'm hopeless.

I've no printer, external screen, mouse or other stuff, only the external hard disk, and my iPod.
I just can't sync new music on my brand new iPod, help me please !!!

Wow, I just posted a message with the exact same problem. Then I looked down, and saw this topic had already been posted(the topic line is almost exactly the same as mine, word-for-word!). Oops!

Well, it goes without saying, I'm having the same problem. I am extremely frustrated. This is the 2nd time I've tried to sync my 80GB Classic, the 2nd time it's not shown up in iTunes, and instead, becomes frozen.

Can't ANYONE help?

I have a similar problem. It's intermittent, though. Sometimes it will sync fine, others, it hangs on the last new item, other times it will sync fine, then eject the iPod, then start the sync all over, 8 times in a row.

Other times it will say it is an unrecognized iPod and I need to restore it.

Resetting doesn't seem to help. I thought I solved the problem by turning off disk use, but that didn't work. Actually restoring the iPod didn't work. One strange thing is that even though "enable Disk Use" is unchecked, the iPod sill shows up as a disk in the finder window.

Ok seriously. We pay way too much for these things for crap like this to happen all the time. Apple has us all by the gonads b/c they know we can't get them to work any other way.
Friday, my 80G classic worked just freaking fine on my home computer. After I reinstalled it b/c of some error with quicktime. I also connected it to my brother's laptop over the weekend it did fine. Used it on work computer today worked fine---after I had to uninstall and reinstall quicktime.
Loaded the iTunes upgrade on work computer today, seemed to work fine after that.
Now at home I get the following error: Your iPod needs to be reformatted for use with Windows. Would you like to run iTunes to restore your iPod now?
I've tried for weeks now to back up my iTunes on both my computers and it always freezes. I was hoping after the new version this would be fixed. NOT so much.
So in a nut shell....I CAN'T back up my stuff, b/c iTunes *****. Now in order to use it I have to reformat my iPod, which will erase all my stuff. So I'm SCREWED. I'm not usually a hostile person, but at this point I could scream!!!!!
the apple/iTunes support team has been nothing but helpful on some duplicate song issues I've had in the past. Why in the H*LL can't they freaking fix this???
If I have to reload 80G it won't be on an iPod. I'll sell the **** thing to some other sucker, find something else, or for pete's sake, go back to CDs.

Don't tell me Apple doesn't have enough money or enough geniuses (genii) to figure this out with out it causing my time and money I've already spent.
Rant over.... 😟

My 80GB does the same thing, I have tried everything. Restoring doesn't help, neither does putting it in disk mode and error checking the drive. Moving files in smaller blocks gets me consistently to 1.33 GB and then it fails. There is no provision to quit in iTunes, ejecting during a sync just causes the app to freeze and erases all of my tunes. I now own a very expensive paper weight as well. After 3 days of searching every site I could find and trying everything to resolve my problem I have given up. It seems to me the hard disk has a bad sector but there is no way I can find to work around it, my 80GB iPod is now a 1.3 GB iPod. I am very disappointed, I had a Nano 4GB that worked perfectly fine and decided to go for something a bit larger, should have bought the 16 GB Nano.
