importing photos from iphoto to iphone

importing photos from iphoto to iphone

I have the 'old' version of the iphone and cannot transfer photos from iphoto to the iphone. When i click on the photos tab for the iphone in itunes, the albums and everything except "sync photos from" at the very top are grayed out. Then my only option is to import everything from iphoto onto the iphone, which i do not want to do.

So -- how do I import only certain folders from iphoto onto the phone? How do i get the options below to not be grayed out?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Hey newuser1969,

Make sure you have the latest software updates installed on your Mac. Click the Apple> Software Udate...

Do you have albums in iPhoto? Try creating a new test album, then relaunching iTunes.

You can also try to rebuild your iPhoto library.

I have the latest updates.

I have albums in my iphoto and created a test album before i posted to try to import it, but i can't. It's all grayed out when i open itunes and it says I can't import anything except my entire iphoto library.

You don't use iPhoto to transfer photos into your iPhone. This is done through iTunes.

However, you do need to set up folders with the pics you want to transfer over to your iPhone in iPhoto.

You then need to go to iTunes, select the Photos tab, and sync your photos from there.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed that last part about opening it in iTunes and having it greyed out. Don't know what to tell you. However, I will look into it when I get home because now I'm super curious about this.

You're misunderstanding me. Ok let me start again.
I have a bunch of pictures on iPhoto that I want to put onto my iPhone. I made folders/albums of them. I plug in my phone. iTunes opens. I click on the "photo" tab for my phone. Everything is grayed out. The folders and etc come up in the window but they are grayed out and I can't click on them to import them or sync them to my phone. How do I get it to not be grayed out so I can import the photos?

Did you try to rebuild the photo library?

You can find out if the issue is caused by the iPhoto library by testing with an alternate library. Just launch iPhoto while holding Option as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229 Then import a few photos and open iTunes.

If the issue only happens with your main library, it probably needs to be rebuilt using the article I linked in my first response.

If iTunes does not see the alternate iPhoto library, you may want to uninstall and reinstall iTunes as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

Does anyone know how to do the reverse? Transferring photos from a 3G iPhone to iPhoto? Thanks in advance

You can transfer photos from the camera roll to your computer, but not pictures that you have uploaded to the phone from iPhoto or other photo software.

When you dock the phone it is recognized by your computer as a digital camera. You can transfer camera roll photos just like you would for any other digital camera.

It would help if you posted a picture, but in my itunes and with my iphone, I have the "sync photos from" box checked, I've selected Aperture, but I could select iphoto instead, and then lower down I have "selected albums" checked, and then I've checked off those I want synced. Do you have the "sync photos from" checked and iphoto selected?

I'm having the same problem as well. When i go to the photo section on my iphone via itunes, i can't select individual folders, just the entire library. I've updated itunes, but no luck.

any one else have the solution?

i have the same problem. i bought a new iphone a couple weeks ago. everything is syncing except for photos from iphoto. i am able to select iphoto in itunes and it says there are 383 photos in iphoto. however, when i hit sync afterwards the photo section is blank.
