Hooking up a MacBook Pro to a External Monitor

Hey,

I just recently bought the Samsung T260 HD monitor to hook up my MacBook Pro to. However, I encountered a problem during the hookup. I got the computer to show up on the external monitor but the computer still wants to use the display on the computer as well. I used the fn key to try and switch the computer monitor off but it would not do anything. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?!

Are you using the adapter and connecting the signal cable to the D-SUB port on the back of your monitor - per Samsung's instructions?

The instructions just told me to hook up my DVI-D cable to the laptop. Then I connected a audio cable from my computer to a DVI-D audio input in the back of the monitor.

There's no way (at least none I've ever found) to turn off the MacBook Pro's internal display. If you want to use only the external monitor, you'll need to close the MacBook's screen which will require that you also have an external keyboard and mouse.

No - the instruction manual for your monitor states that to connect to a Mac...

• Connect the signal cable to the D-SUB port on the back of your monitor.

Have you tried that?

I mis-read your original post, sorry. You DO have the external monitor working, correct? If so, then don't change any cabling....

Ok, thanks! After you close the MacBook's screen, what prevents it from going to sleep? And after that, how would you get the computer to go in and out of sleep mode?

Nothing. It will go to sleep.

And after that, how would you get the computer to go in and out of sleep mode?

You would wake the system by pressing a key on the external keyboard or moving the external mouse.

I have a mac wireless key board, and a logitech mouse that is connected by USB. In order to have my MBP screen closed do I have to buy a mighty mouse from Apple? Because every time I close my MBP it goes to sleep, so I have both screens on at the same time. One on my MBP, and the other on my T260 HD. What can I do?

I've been trying to hook my MBP in Windows XP mode to a Samsung 757p monitor. I've downloaded the latest Bootcamp ATI driver, but there's not a flikker. In the Mac mode it works fine...Anybody have any ideas?
