Pressing "backspace" on text editing

Every time I press the backspace button on the text editing screen (for example, here in the Apple Discussions) the backspace deletes EVERYTHING in the screen. The only way to avoid stop deleting everything is to escape the screen by going back or clicking the iPod's home button to escape Safari. I did a quick search here but didn't see any other topic about this issue. Is it only the screen on my iPod that causes this to happen? The screen seems clean but as soon as I hit the backspace button it goes on forever until every letter is gone...

Doug, is it really every time? There's a known bug (at least, somewhat known, certainly I reported on it some time back, and I've seen a couple of posts in the iPhone forums on it) where tapping the backspace key when the cursor is in front of a capital letter that follows a period (without an intervening space) triggers a high-speed delete of the entire text field.

I have not seen this personally in v2.1, but it was reproducible in v2.0.1, and occurred in Contacts as well. When I experienced it, tapping any other keyboard key stopped the rapid delete.

EDIT: You could confirm that it's a software issue, not your touchscreen, by rotating into landscape mode, then tapping the text field, typing, and tapping delete in landscape mode, since the backspace key would then be in a different physical location on the screen.

Thanks! It isn't really EVERY time but more than half the time. I don't think it involved the pattern of text you mentioned with the previous bug. I'll see what happens in landscape mode. I had to send my MacBook into AppleCare on Monday so I've been without my regular e-mail & web device and I've been trying to use my iPod touch for a couple of days...

I had, and still currently have, this problem as well. I use the Notes application a lot to type up papers for class when I'm not around my laptop. Sometimes I hit the backspace key and it will just keep erasing the stuff that I previously wrote. The way I solved this was to just tap some random keys faster than they are deleting and the rapid-deletion should stop. However, I still don't like going through the hassle of trying to remember what my iPod just erased.
