Mac won't recognize my ipod and won't charge

My Windows formatted first gen. video 30GB worked fine with my Mac Pro itunes for months and months(since getting Mac Pro), never having a problem recognizing it and then suddenly it said it cannot accept a Windows formatted ipod and I must restore. ?

Now my computer and itunes won't even recognize my ipod is connected and it won't charge. It will however charge from another Mac computer(a macbook). Strange..

I would like to restore it if my computer could only recognize it but I first would like to remove what is on my ipod onto my itunes, so I need to get a program that will allow me to do that.

Any help with any of these issues would be great.
Thanks,
Edd

For Mac, Senuti seems to be the free program of choice.

I use Music Liberator, which is not free ($25) but does a good job. You can try it in a crippled mode for free.

To get the iPod to be recognized, try putting it into Disk Mode before connecting it to the Mac.
