Graphics card for G5 dual

Only issue with your current card is that you won't get very good playback performance and slower renders. The 850XT is the way to go. More RAM helps as well.

It may be that the 850XT was only available as a BTO option - I purchased the 800XT for my G5 aftermarket - but this was about 2 years ago.

I still use an old G5 with nvidia Ultra 6800. I would recommend you to look for it on ebay, since it has a 4K texture limit - ATI does only 2K. Also nVidia is dual DVI, as far as I remember the ATI has only one DVI and one obsolete Apple Display port for older Cinema Displays (those in transparent plastic), so you will need a converter in case you want to go dual-display.

I'm very interested in boosting my G5 dual with a graphics card 'til I have a budget for a new Mac pro.

Until then, *can someone tell me definitively if the cards mentioned in this thread, namely the...*

*... will run on my G5?* (I've seen stuff about there being a distinction between various G5s (e.g. those with PCI and those with PCIe) in various threads and am afraid of buying a card that I won't be able to install.)

No, those are AGP cards for older G5's, you have a PCIe system, and you are lucky, because you can upgrade it with a much more powerful card than the fastest AGP card.

That's good news.. and thank you for this... but now, when you say 'a much more powerful card than the fastest AGP card', what card might that be?

I'm not averse to googling for the answer but, when I don't know what exactly I'm looking for...
