New gmail account on iPhone cannot connect using SSL

Hi,

I was having problems accessing the gmail server on my iphone so i deleted the account settings on the iphone and am creating a new one. However, the iphone tells me that it cannot connect using SSL. Has anyone had a similar problem? I don't want to setup the account without this basic security.

mac book pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am able to log into my account so this does not seem to be the issue. I sent a message to the gmail support staff so we'll see if i have any luck with that. I'm surprised no one out there with an iphone is experiencing a similar problem.

It worked! Thanks Jason. Can you explain to me what may have caused this to occur? I changed my password yesterday so could this have prompted the problem?

Hey milos321,

I'm not sure what caused the issue. I believe account may have been automatically locked because abnormal activity.

Thank you! I haven't been able to access gmail from my 3G all day and this did the trick.

I think I got in this situation by leaving multiple instances of Gmail open--that's my guess based on this:
