firewire over ethernet ???

Is it conceivable there might be some adapter to enable firewire over ethernet?

G5 single processor 1.6MHz, Mac OS X (10.5.5), - macbook c2d -

No.

The current (and more advanced) white Macbook has Firewire, buy that one.

True, but FW is more like SATA or SCISI than Ethernet. It is a dumb point-to-point connection.

A FW to Ethernet adapter would be very costly and probably wouldn't work as expected for most devices.

There is an ieee standard, 1394c, specifying support for firewire over ethernet... so yes definitely.
Just a matter of Apple supporting it one way or another. Either onboard or via an adapter.
