Display hinge loose?

I got a new MBP yesterday and I really like it. However, last night I was laying down on my back, with my MBP on my knees, angled. I noticed that if I angled it a little more, the display couldn't keep open and would swing down, not quite closing but to the point where I can't see the screen, as if the display hinge is a little loose. It might be designed that way, to just not have much tension, but I'm not sure. My old MBP and various MBs I have used don't do that. I figure that, if anything, it should be less of an issue with the lighter, thinner, display.

Does anyone else with a new MBP notice this?

I just received the box and my notebook wouldn't fit...turns out they sent me a iphone box! All the packing material was to send back a MBP. WTH?

Yes, I have noticed the same thing. Definitely annoying. If anyone knows a way to slightly tighten the hinge, please post! Thanks.

It probably shouldn't be that loose. I've only had that happen on very old PowerBooks. See what Apple says.

The screen should definitely not be this loose. I'd recommend taking it back to the store, and if they cannot fix the problem in house they should swap it out for a new one.

Can anyone here take it in to an Apple store and see what they say? I'm almost an hour away from mine.

I did speak with someone who has a new MBP and his hinge is NOT loose like ours. So I'm hoping a Genius should be able to simply tighten the screw(s) that keeps the display in place.

Same problem here! I was super excited that you can swing the display back another 10% so I can read stuff while lying on my couch. However, the lid almost closes itself when I do so.

Is there anyone who doesn't have that problem? I'm afraid it might have been done by design so it's easier to open the display. :-/

Yes. As I said, I spoke with someone who did not have the issue. I'm hoping it's just a screw or two that needs to be tightened.

Me too! Exactly the same thing. I was lying in bed, tilted up my knees, and down it comes! Lame. My wife got one of the new 13" Macbooks on the same day, and her hinge seems way tighter. Maybe it's the big piece of glass on the 15" display weighing it down? ... maybe Apple can send me some helium balloons?

Anyone else taken this in to get checked out yet? A friend is a Genius and he said to just take it in and have it replaced.

I am going in today for the second time with my new MBP. I know to expect problems with the first gen. but this is getting old. I am glad to hear with this one that I am not the only one that is having the hinge issue. I was thinking that the glass was just to heavy and would never stay up but glad to hear that this can be fixed as I do use my laptop in bed from time to time.
