Freezing Tracks doesn't release UAD-1 plugins in Logic 8
I'm working on a mix and I'm using several Neve 1081s, 33609s on tracks, which I've Frozen, and the UAD-1 Control Panel shows that they are released and the cards have free space. However, when I try to use more plugins, I keep getting system errors saying the audio engine can't keep up. So I eMailed UA Tech Support and this is what they said...
Logic Audio does not release UAD-1 DSP resources when the "freeze" function is used on tracks with UAD-1 plugins. My understanding of this function is that the freeze function is a quick offline bounce of the audio material. Offline means "not in real time" so perhaps the function does not take into account the external UAD PCI based device.
If you want to "freeze" the track with your UAD plugs, I suggest you bounce the track. The bounce is used for rendering the whole track into one WAV or AIFF file. Note: make sure you activate "online" rendering. If you use the "offline" option, you'll have the same problem again: audio will be bounced but UAD plugs won't. After the bounce your plug-in settings are rendered into the audio file which you can re-import again. Now you can turn off your UAD plug-ins on the original track to save DSP power.
I don't have any info on if/when Logic will offer updates to change the Freeze/Bounce issues. And yes the plugs are not released even though they show they are.
Tip: Don't forget to save your settings first, you might need them again if you want to change something. This gives you the option if you have to bounce again.

So Freezing tracks in Logic doesn't really work as we need.
I did a search here, but couldn't find any threads on this subject. Has it already been discussed here? Any and all info will be appreciated.
