I have the MacBook (early 2008)

There are the Previous, Play/Pause, Next, Mute, Low, Louder Volume buttons, but I can't get them to do what they are supposed to without pressing the 'fn' button at the same time.

HOW DO I GET THEM TO WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO HOLD DOWN THE THE fn KEY AT THE SAME TIME?

I've tried system preferences, but it won't work. When I tried to do that in system prefences, >Application Shortcuts >All Applications > iTunes > [what the key function should do] > the Key it's supposed to be, but will not work.

I went to the apple store, asked the associate but he did not know what to do either. [Some of the computers in the store worked without having to hold down the fn button while others did not]

Help.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

If you go into system preferences and choose 'keyboard and mouse', then click on 'keyboard', there is an option that says 'use all f1, f2 keys as standard function keys', make sure this in NOT checked and this should solve your problem.
