MOTU Fastlane = stuck notes for me - anybody else?

Running Logic Pro 8.0.2 on a 2.16ghz 24" iMac w 3Gs of memory, OSX 10.5.5, Apogee Duet, MOTU Fastlane, M-Audio UC-33e.

Everything in Logic runs fine EXCEPT for using my keyboard controller. I get stuck notes in every soft synth that I have tried (except for Addictive Drums). I have to hit 'bypass' to get the stuck notes to quit. These are random notes and it can happen within a few seconds of starting, or it may take a few minutes before it happens.

I have deleted my Logic pref files, deleted the old setup for the Fastlane, reinstalled the newest drivers from MOTU, have changed MIDI cables, disconnected the UC-33e, audio buffer is set at 512 (blech!), turned Bluetooth off, etc. No matter - stuck notes. When I run the MOTU Clockworks software it says it can't detect a MOTO MIDI interface. What the....?

The controller and cables work fine on my old PC with Soundblaster soundcard so I know my equipment works okay. Anybody else have similar issues? Are there any known fixes? Is there a recommended MIDI interface for the Mac + Leopard?

Thanks,
Doug

Did you delete all of these before installing the new driver.

/Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/MOTU
/System/Library/Extensions/Motu MIDI Driver.kext/Contents/MacOS/Motu MIDI Driver
/System/Library/Extensions/Motu MIDI Driver.kext
/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/Motu MIDI Driver.plugin

Also, have you wired any (software) MIDI Cables in Audio/MIDI setup.

What about the MIDI I/O of the UC-33e? How does that fit into all this?

Last, have you tried a different USB port?

Ka-CHING! Sometimes the easiest solutions are the ones that elude us. All appears to be working now - much thanks for your help!

Doug,

Glad to hear it... something else was sharing the USB port, possibly one of the internal devices (keyboard/mouse...etc), enough to cause dropped note-offs.
I was beginning to think it was a MIDI loop but didn't see how that could affect soft-synths.

Well, it goes to show that once again user error was at fault. The iMac has 3 USB ports and 2 FW ports. Duet was on the 800 port, G Tech external drive was on the 400 port, UC-33e was on one USB port, backup drive was in another... and everything else was plugged into a powered USB multi-port extender (keyboard, mouse, Frontier TranzPort and the Fastlane!) on the other USB port. Obviously I wasn't thinking clearly when I did that set-up. I powered it down, swapped the ports for the UC-33e and the Fastlane and all is well.

So what has this taught me? Obviously I need a Mac Pro 😉 Not enough ports on the iMac!

Thanks again,
Doug
