No External Speaker Sound on iPod Touch 2G and No Music

I have an almost brand new iPod Touch 2G (I week old). The external speaker worked just fine until today when I turned it on. The headphones are not plugged in (the sound through the headphones is great). After turning it off and on a couple of times, resetting it and giving it a "hard" restart the speaker worked for about 10 seconds then nothing.

Another thing happened at the same time (probably related): all of my music is gone. The podcasts are still there as are the applications, but no music. I was hoping it would appear when I plugged the ipod into my computer and started iTunes, but there was still no music.

The ipod is:
charged
has not been dropped or mishandled in any way

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Have you tried restoring it?

I have a similar problem with mine. I bought a 2nd Gen Ipod Touch on thursday (everything working fine), halfway through friday my downloaded apps stop working (when I start them up they close after a few seconds, have tried deleting them and redownloading them but no succes) and today all my audio and video content dissapeared (photos still fine). The audio and video is still stored on my Ipod but it is displayed as other on the Itunes memory bar. My internal speaker works fine.

Additonal Info- roughly 6GB of music and video of my 8GB Ipod was added from a friend's computer (Mac Book) so I don't have that content on my computer so I want to leave deleting it and resyncing to a very last resort. Also I wouldn't know how to get rid of it anyway as it does not appear on my Ipod or Itunes.

My 1G 16GB touch quit playing sound through the connector several weeks ago. I synced it with the iMac and the sound came back. About a week ago the sound went away again. I generally use it with a Bose Sound Dock, however it will not work with the iHome either. The headphones do work. I have gone as far as to restore it to the factory settings and not replace the files on it. Right now I have one song on it and the problem is still occurring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with my iPod Touch 2G. The external sound worked fine until yesterday but then for some reason stopped working. I have Restored it this morning to Factory Settings but I still have no sound. I have also lost the Bejewelled 2 game I paid for and downloaded last week from the iTunes Store.
I have no idea where to go from here. I have searched on the Apple support pages but can't find anything that helps on there.

Had same problem. Try going to SETTINGS--> MUSIC and turn OFF Sound Check (I spoke w/ Tech Support to fix mine). Then power off and on the iPod. If that doesn't do it, power it off while holding down the home key (I believe this is a reset). The sound check uses the iTunes volume control, so if iTunes was low or muted the iPod will be too. It worked on mine. Good luck
