Why won't Garageband pick up any microphones?

If you're plugged into the Mac's mini line-in port you simply choose Built-In Input in GB's Preferences, Audio/MIDI.
(if it's a PPC I think you have to use Sys Prefs).

The machine doesn't really know what's plugged into the line-in.

If you have a mic that requires phantom power you'll need an interface or some such.

so i recently got a tamcast tm-78mic and us-122L interface.i installed everything but i cant get it to work with garageband.i went to the out put settings and i clicked on the us-122l that showed up and when i try to record it dosent record and i cant hear the music trough my headphones only my voice .then i change the output settings and im able to hear the music trough the computer speakers.idont know what im doing wrong. i want to be able to hear my voice and music trough my headphones..please help

Choose the the tascam as input, select the correct input channel either channel 1 (mono) or channel 2 (mono). Choose the output headphones connect to mac choose built in if your headphones are plugged into the tascam choose the tascam.

when i choose the us-122l for output i cant hear the music from my headphones wich are plugged into the us-122l and when i try to record it wont record the red line just dissapears.

What red light? Do you mean the record enable light, turn it back on.

I have the same product and am experiencing the same problem

I have tried all the configurations in both GB and system preferences

Any help would be appreciated.

ok oso here is what im having trouble with..my headphones are pluged into the interface and also the microphone..i go to GB and go to perfences and change the output to us 122L and input to us-122L and when i try to record it fades away when i press stop.do i have to put my headphones to the computer? i need serious help.

First are you using a intel mac or PPC?

Your interface should have a monitor dial turn it one way you get the interface input (dry) the other you get the feed from computer (wet). Make sure it's set correctly.

im using a macbook(im new to mac) so ive messed around with the interface and it has phantom on and mono on.. when i move it around it just decreases the volume from my headphones.. i cant hear the music nor im able to record. it worked at first 2 days ago and im not making it able to work.do you have like a link to see how its set up?

ok so i dont know what i did but it worked..can you tell me what i did wrong.how come when i record i hear a crackling sound trough my head phones
