This copy of iTunes is corrupt or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.

This is the message I receive after installing iLife 08. I tried reinstalling iTunes twice, still won't work. I finally went to the iTunes web site and downloaded the software, installed it and now it works. Is it possible the iLife DVD is corrupt?
