Late 08 Macbook Pro freezing in Vista 32

Hi folks,

This is my first Mac, so excuse any glaring solutions I may have overlooked.

I have the new Macbook Pro stock 2.53 unit. I installed Vista Home Premium vis Boot Camp and everything is working really, really well. I'm not having any of the issues that many people are reporting. However one recurring and potentially deal-breaking issue is that Vista hard freezes about every 2 hours of use. I notice that it primarily happens when browsing the web and I think it happens when I scroll through a webpage while it is still loading. I could just be imagining that however. Firefox 3 is the program that is usually running when it happens. Thanks for any insight.

One more issue is that sound crackling issue, it happens about every 2 or 3 minutes for 1 or 2 seconds if I'm playing sound. Was there some sort of update for this or is there a generic sound driver that I can use? Thank you!

Having the same issues with the 2.53GHz MacBook Pro with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. Playing music through iTunes and windows media player. I'm using internet explorer for web surfing. First time I have had a problem with a windows installation on a Mac. I have done many installations and all worked great. On my earlier model 17" this problem does not occur. By earlier model I mean 2.4GHz core 2 duo with 4GB of DDR2 RAM running windows vista ultimate 32 bit. I called the local apple store and was given no real solution to the problem. I am planning on calling the applecare representatives to report this problem. I hope the developers of boot camp read this and release an update real soon!

Hmm, after searching and searching I disable the wireless adapter and the sound plays fine. It looks like the wireless network scan that occurs every 60 seconds is the root cause of the situation! I've read you can edit the registry to make this interval longer than 60 seconds. But for now i'll just not be online if I want to listen to music..

Yeah, I noticed that that was definitely the issue. I've updated the realtek audio drivers and I'm on the hunt for updated broadcom drivers, if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Were you having the freezing issue? I've been troubleshooting and I haven't frozen yet after turning off my messenger client (Pidgin), so here's hoping it's that simple...it probably isn't.

Hi Akashhhhh,

I just bought the new MBP and it has the same problem. For the audio crackling, you can download Vista Anti-Lag, just install it and execute it, click Activate.

This solves the problem for me 🙂

I also have the freeze problem, it hard freezed twice in a day, it's very annoying. The last time it happens is when I scroll the youtube video. I don't know what is the cause, I had not seen a computer hard freezes for years. I will will try few more days, if this problem won't go away, I am going to return my MacBook Pro.

I had frequent hanging and BSODs all to do with the nvidia driver

I installed all the updates on the apple side and updated the nvdia driver to 176.54 and the system has been completely stable!

I downloaded it from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ file is 17654_vista64.exe - clearly there is a 32 bit version too.

It is also worth looking at the various posts / manual info about proper use of the trackpad - it seems odd to start with - but works fine when you know how

Coops,

Thanks for the link - after reading this thread yesterday - I made a 60gb game partition on my new 2.53 MBP and installed Vista Home 32, made sure I installed the BootCamp files from the new CD's that came with the 2008MP, and applied various MS Patches. So far I have not experienced any lockup's but if I do I will try the drive you have noted below.
