I have a 23" Cinema Display hooked up to my new MacBook Pro via Mini Display Port. After the MacBook Pro turns off the Cinema Display and I wake it up, the display is scrambled and flashes in and out. I have to remove the Mini Display Port adapter and reinsert the adapter to fix the issue. I have used the Cinema Display with my White MacBook without problems for 9 months. I am assuming the is a driver issue or bad adapter. Any Ideas?

hello, this sounds suspiciously similar to the problems i've described in my thread, "major screen flicker when using kvm".
take a look there as i've had a few people comment that they too have been having problems.
same here tho, usually after sleeping my machine - i wake it up and it's glitch-city. i have to unplug adaptor and plug it back in to get it to work again.
in my case, it's not the adaptor - i've tried a couple.
let me know if you hear something - either in this thread (your problem is slightly different as you're going directly into the monitor) or you can post in my thread as well.
well, gl and ya - let's hope for a software update.
I had this problem yesterday, with the same system. It hasn't happened again once I made some adjustments (& I left screen and display asleep overnight, it woke fine this morning). I'll let you know if it recurs, but here's what I did in case this helps anyone else.
It happened to me when I had the external display set in the options for the power button to turn the screen on or off. I changed this in System Prefs to send the computer to sleep, and turned on the screensaver to run after 3 mins, and have the computer and display to go to sleep after 15 mins. So far, both leaving the system to sleep by itself, and using the screen button to sleep, have worked without causing blank screen or alarmingly fuzzy flashing graphics... touch wood...
I wonder whether this is something to do with compatibility issues, since the new LED screens, I hear, have no power button.
I look forward with interest to hearing others' thoughts / word from Apple in this regard.

I have seen similar behavior with my new MBP connected to a 24" Dell 2407WFP. It is not reliably repeatable but happens maybe 4 out of 10 times the display goes to sleep when connected to the MBP. When it wakes up I get the entire screen flashing to "snow" and small flashing lines across the display. Removing the Display Port adapter, waiting, and reconnecting seems to fix it.
I'm fairly concerned about this but I don't know how to describe it to AppleCare/Genius. Crossing my fingers that this is a problem in software. I have used this display with 2 other earlier model MBP with no problem in the past.
I have a worse problem with a 24 inch (HP 2475W) display in that the new MBPro wont drive to full resolution so I have to use it at 1360 x 768. At higher resolutions it flickers or I just get snow. I've tried wiggling the crappy displayport / dvi adaptor to no avail. I am off to the genius bar today to find out if it is the adapter or the notebook! My old MBPro drives the display just fine at 1900 x 1200. I *hope* its the adapter.
That sounds similar to my problem. I am able to run @ 1920x1200 with my Dell, but I do get snow from time to time. As I said, disconnect/reconnect seems to be a work-around for me.
I have a wireless usb adapter connected to my MBP and sometimes I will put it to sleep while connected to my 24" BENQ. After a few seconds I'll press a key on the external keyboard and the MBP will wake up and turn the BENQ LCD display on. However, if i don't use it for 30 minutes and the screen goes dark, I am unable to turn the screen back on by typing or moving the external keyboard/mouse around.
Having the exact same problem here on two new 2.53Ghz MBPs, one connected to a 23" Apple Cinema Display, and one connected to a Samsung 24" 245BW. Very frustrating.
Open up Expose in System Preferences, and set one of the corners of your screen to be "Sleep Display." Then, if you experience this static issue, just drag your mouse to the corner to sleep the display, and then move the mouse again to bring the display back to life. This fixes the issue (for that instance).
I have another confirmation of this problem - same setup
When I wake the display from sleep there is moving color static and the image cuts in and out.
Also this issue seems to disrupt my bluetooth keyboard & mouse after I sleep it to stop the static. The keyboard & mouse will wake the MBP but then become unresponsive.
I had to take back a 15" model, for a different reason, and it happens on the replacement too.
How does one go about reporting this to Apple? Do they already know?
I am now thinking that the adapter, at least in my case, may be the weak link.
I have 2 adapters, one that I use with a Dell 2407WFP at home and one that I use with an Acer 22" LCD at work. I initially saw this problem at home but not work. I assumed it was due to the monitor difference. I then switched the adapters and now I see the problem at work and not at home.
I intend to bring the adapter that displays this behavior back to the Apple store and ask for a replacement. I will post back with my results when I do so.
Don't think it's the adapters. I have two MacBook Pros with 2 different adapters, and both do it. To my eyes it's clearly software bug, since you can fix the issue without even unplugging the cable.
I have a more significant problem! Even connecting the MiniDVI to the DVI adaptor and switching on my new MBP makes the screen impossible to work on, the display is completely fuzzy, pink, and flickers constantly. I've tried to sleep/wake, as suggested but this has absolutely no effect. Detect Display does show Cinema Display and none of the resoulutions listed above seem to alter the screen artefacts listed. The monitor is no essentially unusable until there is a fix.
That Expose sleep trick didn't work for me. It's very odd. I have the Late 2008 15-inch MBP, and use the display port to DVI adapter connected to a 23-inch cinema display.
It doesn't always happen, but I'd say that half the time, when the display sleeps (using both displays), the cinema display won't properly wake. It remains black for a second or so, and then flickers the screen image, usually with pixel patterns of some kind, and then goes off again for a second or so, repeating. Only unplugging the display port connector and plugging it back in will resolve the issue.
I have a feeling that we're either dealing with a recall type issue, or more likely, a driver issue with the brand new nvidia chipset. I have a ticket in with Apple. They're sending me a new adapter, but I doubt it will help. Either way, I'll tell my Apple rep to look at this thread (and others) and see if we can get Apple to acknowledge the issue and/or promise a fix of some kind.
The Expose sleep trick DEFINITELY works. I've got it working on both my new MBPs connected to external displays. I have EXACTLY the same symptoms as you, with my Apple 23" display. Moving the cursor to the bottom left of my screen (set to put my display to sleep), waiting a second, and then moving away from the corner fixes it EVERY time. You sure you're doing this correctly? I can successfully repeat the process 100% of the time with both my new systems on two different displays!
(PS if you have a password set coming out of sleep, you might need to enter the password before the expose will work).
