you'll need some kind of media converter. If you don't have one, a camera will do. Plug the VCR into your camera and use the firewire from camera to computer.
If you are trying to get VHS or any other analogue video source into FCP you will need to run the signal through an Analogue/Digital Converter. Some digital DV cameras can act as a converter allowing you to connect the VHS to the camera via RCA cables and go out of the camera to the computer via FW.
There are also many A/D converters on the market. Canopus make a line of them that generally get good reviews.
