iPod Connecting To The Internet Via Laptop?

Well, I'm having Wi-Fi problems - It's not connecting to the internet. But I think I've discovered something.

The iPod won't connect when my laptop (The one it syncs with) is turned off. It consistently gives me the "Can't connect to the network" message.

But, when my laptop is turned on - It connects perfectly!

Is it possible that the iPod is connecting via the laptop, if so - How can I fix it?

iPod Touch 2G, Windows Vista

Sounds like a hunt.
What network connection type (wired/WiFi) is laptop using when Touch internet connection works?
What is the IP address of the laptop when it works? (Run > Cmd > ipconfig)
What is the IP address of the Touch when it works? (Settings > WiFi > Network> )
Try turning off WiFi on the laptop and with laptop on, does Touch connect to internet?
Turn WiFi off on the router, does Touch connect to internet?

Thanks for helping!! This is driving me crazy - It's the third day of my time with my iPod Touch - and I'm already having problems!!!

When the touch connection works - the laptop is Wireless
Currently, the IP Address of the computer is 10.1.1.2 (IPv4 Address - Is that right?)
When the Touch worked last - the IP address was 10.1.1.3 (I think i'm starting to see a pattern....)
After quite a few tries - the iPod didn't connect with Wi-Fi off at all. I turned Wi-Fi back on to the laptop - and the iPod connected to the router first time - but not to the internet.

I probably should mention that it doesn't connect everytime with the laptop on - just most of the time.

Also, the router is using WPA security - would that hurt.
