HDD Install

Will be replacing the OEM startup HDD with a new HDD. Can I clone the existing drive to the new drive to use as the new startup drive and avoid reinstalling apps?

DualCore 2.3 G-5 / Dual 1.25 MDD G-4 / iMac G-5, Mac OS X (10.5), iPods / iPhones etc...

I had to install two internal drives recently, which I found quite easy.
FIRST MAKE A BACK UP OF THE ORIGINAL HD.
YES, YOU REALLY HAVE TO DO THIS.
Keep the original hard disc in bay A, and insert the new one in the B bay.
(the isntructions for installing the new HD are in the manual also available on internet, p 67?)
Restart.
My computer asked if i want to initialise the new disc, and the disk Utility or first aid appears. You have to partition the new drive, with one partition (takes a few secs only). I presume you can partition into more if you want for your personal reason, but I was happy with one partition. You have to give a name
Then you copy everything onto new disc via disk utility. You select the original disc as thE source, and the recently partioned one to have the data written onto it.
Then either
a)On your settings, select the start up disc as the b bay, and restart. or
b) You can restart and down the option or alt key, you then get a screen asking what you want to start from. Select the b bay.
Check all apps, docs etc to make sure you are satisfied.
Take out the A drive ( you have to take out the b drive as well) and put the B drive back in drive B.
Restart.
Check you are happy with everything, documents apps, mail settings etc.
If you are happy with everything you may have to put the HD back in the computer in order to erase it which you should do to prevent sensitive or personal data being compromised.
Good luck
