I power off my iPhone every evening. This morning, when I powered it up, I got a screen that visually prompted me to plug the iPhone to my iTunes, along with a “Slide for Emergency” button (in various languages). As I was away from home this morning, I simply shut the phone off. When I powered it up again, it booted normally but I received a "iPhone is activated” message, along with a “Dismiss” button.
What happened? Should I be anxious about a possible system failure? Have I done some serious damage to my iPhone's drive?
My iPhone has the lastest software installed, is “legal” (its system is not jailbroken) and I'm with Fido (in Canada).
Have all of you tried a reset after this? Pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously, and ignoring the slide to turn off prompt? You won't lose any data. This will help with any bugs, since the iPhone is considered a small computer, it can react like any computer. Since none of you have said this happens repeatedly, a reset can help.
This has happened to my UK iPhone 3G Firmware 2.2 a few times. Each time its after the phone has crashed and restarted. The last time it failed during an unlock as I un-docked it from my PC
Thanks for the tip that I don't actually have to sync it to re-activate and can just reboot - was worried what I would do if it happened when I am away from a computer.
I had the same issue, but with 2 iPhones. This past Saturday I rebooted my phone and my wife's. Both phones displayed the same error described in the original post. The reboots occurred within 5 minutes of each other. This is either related to ATT service or 2.2.1.
Now today, my wife's phone would not recover. Tried connecting to Itunes and restoring but keeps saying it can;t read SIM or there is a lock on the phone. Called Apple and went through ther normal 1st level Troubleshooting without any reosolution. I have schedule a visit to the Apple store to get the phone replaced. Just wondering when MY phone will go. Seems too coincidental.
I am running 2.2 I have yet to update because of hearing all these issues with 2.2.1. Every so often when I go to "wake" my phone the screen won't show up as if the phone is off. I would hold the sleep/wake and home buttons and still nothing. Only thing that happens to work is if I plug my phone into the charger the screen comes on like nothing ever happened. So I unplug it and the screen goes blank agian.
I've found the only thing to do is plug my phone In when this happens and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears. Then after the phone resets I sometimes get the connect to iTunes screen with slide for emergency.
Also I'm having an issue with YouTube. Alot of my videos I regulary play in bookmarks now won't play. They say unable to play video?
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix these issues???
Has happened to me twice in the past 24 hours. both times came after a "hard reset" of the phone, as applications had crashed and werent force-quitting.
Same problem here. Got the the connect to itunes and the slide to unlock in many languages issue this morning. Please research and determine root cause.
yes I have reset and this has happened a few times now. My phone is legal. The cord problem seems to have been since the last iphone update, but the activation thing may be since the att update.
