Default Save Path

Hello, I am looking for a way to change the default save path that Logic uses, since we use Logic for education, we have many users and they all tend not to save their work in the right place. So being able to change the default save path would make our lives a lot easier!

I appreciate any help you can give, even if the answer is that you can't change it.

Thanks!

Hi,

Each Logic session creates it's own save path. The best way is to allow for Logic to store all relative data for each session in it's own song folder.

Unfortunately, you have to tell your students where you want them to store their song folders. Logic simply obeys commands at that point, and cannot force a save into a pre-determined folder.

You also can lock certain areas of the computer, so the students cannot save in those folders.

Cheers

I can't remember how to do it and I recently had a hard drive failure so I have yet to set it up again but there is a way to do it by creating an alias of the Logic folder to the drive or server you want to default to. Of course as noeqplease points out Logic will create its own appropriate folders for each project that you or your students create. If you are simply looking to have the projects all save to a certain drive do a search on here there is a way to do it...I gonna be trying to find it again too as I like to have my projects default save to my external drive....

...or create individual user accounts for each student. That is in the long run the best solution, and it is the way most schools do it, and not too hard to do/learn to do. Also that way students can not 'disrupt' eachothers files, since Logic will save the Project in the folder of the user that is logged in at that time, and this user cannot access other users' folders.
If you've got more questions about this, or want more detail or clarification, let me know.

regards, Erik.

You could create a shortcut or symbolic link to the preferred save folder.

This is how I do it.

Default is ~Username/Music/Logic

Preferred is Audio HD/Logic

*Copy/Backup any projects you want to keep from the Default save folder first!*

Delete the Default Folder called 'Logic'

Make an Alias (Cmd+L) of your preferred save folder

Drag this Alias to ~Username/Music and Rename it to 'Logic'

Now if you select the Alias from within Finder, it should link directly to your preferred save location.

When you click 'Save' in Logic, it should also link to the preferred location.

You can also use symbolic links which I think offer a more robust solution and can be created using the terminal. I prefer a paid app called 'Cocktail' which can do this with a GUI and has many other useful utilities too.

Hope this is helpful

Good luck!
