AIM 6.8 vs Skype 2.7 for video chat?

Hi -
I'm trying to set-up the best way to chat with my kids via PC laptop when I travel. This is the only real feature I need. I've set-up AIM in iChat and on PC, but have been disappointed with the video quality I see coming from the Mac end. I have a new (10/'08) Logitech Pro webcam on PC end. She sees great video on the new iMac, but I see poor/choppy video on the PC side - even with blazing connections.
Was thinking about trying Skype 2.7 - but haven't found any meaningful feedback comparing the two. Any thoughts or experience would be dearly appreciated.
