iPhone not displaying Contact name for incoming calls.

I have a specific problem with my iPhone 3G. I am from USA and I have a contact from another country UK. The contact is stored as '+44 123456790'. But whenever call comes it shows only a number like '44123456790' and hence this number does not match with contact name in contact list so only number is shown instead of contact name.

However all other phones I have used before like Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry etc. had never had this problem because they just try to match 8 or 9 last digits of a number.

In case of this iPhone only difference in incoming number and stored contact number is '+' sign. Still it fails to identify!

I guess this is a kind of bug which Apple need to fix.

Thanks VipinM for posting this.

I am living in Singapore and currently been posted to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Whenever I got calls from anyone in Kuala Lumpur, my phone would only display the telephone numbers instead of contact name [the callers are already in my contacts].

I tried to change the International setting to UK, US and then to Singapore, but without much luck.

Do you think it has to do with Firmware 2.0 & 2.2?

I remember not to encountered this problem when I was using iPhone 2G or 1st Gen.

Appreciate your feedback or comments.

Thanks in advance.

I think the suggestion of storing as another (secondary) number is excellent. It is the only way that the problem is given an immediate solution before the guys at APPLE sort out the software.

But will someone please tell me about taking a screenshot of the SMS to be forwarded?

Does anyone know when APPLE will have iPhones available to all without having the other network subscribers having to crack the firmware?
