Time Capsule malfunction

Hi

I am nearly at the end of my sanity here.

At home I have 2 iMacs and 2 MacBooks. All but one computer work fine with the time capsule.

When I go to select a device for Time Machine in System Preferences, my Time Capsule is not in the list. This is odd, because it only happens on one of the iMacs, which is connected via ethernet directly to the TC-unit. And I can configure the TC via AirPort Utility.

If I reset the TC to factory defaults, it shows in the Time Machine list again. But as soon as I modify its settings and press update, it disappears again. Although only from the one iMac. All the other macs can still see it in the device list.

Another disturbing issue is when i try to browse the TC from finder. First I get Connection Failed. And when I click "Connect As" I get the following message:
"Connection Failed - This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally".

I am going crazy here.

Thankful for any input on the issue.

loveboat,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Try this on the Mac that is connected via Ethernet...

Launch system Preferences --> Network Prefs.

You can rearrange the order of services on the left. Make sure Ethernet is at the top if that is the primary means this Mac is connected to the network. Click the "gear" icon at the bottom and select "Modify Service Order" or something like that.

Next, highlight "Ethernet" (or Built-in Ethernet) on the left. From the "gear" icon select "Make Service Inactive". Wait 10 seconds, and then select "Make Service Active."

Now see if you are connected to the Time Capsule.

Cheers!
