I just received my new MBP via FedEx - so far, love it. I bought the 2.53 version and upgraded the hard drive to 320GB at 7200rpm. I can't for the life of me figure out how to see in my settings if this is in fact the 7200rpm model or if it's the 5400rpm model. I just want to make sure I'm getting what I paid for. I opened the back up and the drive itself doesn't say it's running speed. When I pull it up in finder it doesn't say. So how can I find out?

Under the System Profiler, look under ATA and google the model number, that will tell you for sure.
Sorry,
It's actually under Serial-ATA.

Can you let us know the manufacturer and model #?
I'm considering ordering my MBP with the 250 Gb and installing my own 320 Gb drive to get the model that I want.

I'd like the answer to this question as well. What make and model is the 7200gig internal drive?
This is the model number that shows up:
Hitachi HTS723232L9SA62
If you google that, nothing - however, if you knock off the end 'SA62' - google does come back with results and it does in fact appear to be 7200rpm.

That's what I found interesting, according to the Hitachi site this is the drive:
320 GB SATA 1.5Gb/s
I wonder if you replace it with a 3.0Gb/s drive if you'll notice a difference, the upgrade is only $50 but it's still not the faster 7200rpm drive

Just got my new MBP via FedEx this afternoon.
I ordered the 320GB HDD @ 7200 RPM. It is the same as noted above. It is the $50 upgrade that Apple offers. Standard drive is 5400 RPM.
All drives that Apple offers are Serial ATA (1.5GB/s), none are SATA II (3GB/s). The only difference is in RPM. (5400 standard vs. 7200 upgrade)
Curiously the nvidia chipset is 3GB/s capable. Strange that 3GB/s support is not offered.
To answer OPs question, yes, the drive is 7200 RPM.

What's the make and model?
Can one order the stock 250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 running at 1.5 Gb/s from Apple on the 2.4Ghz model and change out that HD out for a 320 Gb Serial ATA @ 7200, but at 3.0Gb/s? Who sells these? And will it fit into the MBP? Can you publish a link if you know of anyone selling them?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

Looks great. Thanks for the link!
Hi Jules, So are you actually using this SATA drive? And if so, may I hear your comments on this?
I have that drive in an external case but I don't own the latest MBP.
I found it to be a very quiet drive, had it over a year now no problems. I know that it's different from having actually in a laptop.
Here's a review, one of the biggest selling points was it's low power consumption:
