iPod keeps cycling between "syncing" and "connecting", unknown error 13011
I recently bought a new 120GB classic and have been having trouble when trying to sync it with my MacBook. When it connects to the computer, it appears to transfer information like "Last played" etc to my computer and also updates the iPod with any changes to my iTunes library since the last sync. But after a while it just keeps switching back and forth with the "Syncing" and "Connecting" messages on my iPod. Then after about 10 minutes or so of this, it gives me an error:
"The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13011)."
At this point it lets me disconnect the iPod, but to go through this every time I want to sync is a little ridiculous! Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any help is appreciated!
I get the same problem when manually syncing my iphone to the PC I use at work. Have to loaded palylist created in genius to your ipod? I noticed this problem after transfering a couple of genius-created playlist so I plan to remove them and see if the error stops. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely give that a try. Oddly enough, the past several times I've connected I did not have any issues (even with Genius playlists syncing). I think this iPod has a mind of its own...
I've had the same syncing/disconnecting problems with both iPod Classics (80Gb) in our family. Both were bought recently (second hand) and both gave me identical problems. The problem seems to be with iTunes/Mac OS - both iPods behave impeccably if I connect through my daughter's eMac which hasn't been updated as regularly as my main machine. She is still on 10.5.2 and iTunes 8.0.
Obviously her eMac is also not an intel Mac.
If you can connect to an older machine/OS, it might be worth trying. Judging from the number of similar problems that longer term owners seem to be having recently, I hope that Apple are working on a solution and that sometime soon we can use our iPods with my main machine.
