isscript.msi out of date, newer version required. huh?

Just got a new ipod for hubby and tossed it on the cp like i have in the past for registration and synching. Well not this time, I got the message that this ipod cannot be used on my current version of itunes, i need to upgrade to v8, ok sat for 8min then get error that states that my isscript is not up to date, obtain new verion or contact personal admin. Im not a pc whiz but i searched the web and fnd all sort of things to try but nothing worked, one tells me to alter the registry in the installshield/11 but how the heck do you do that. I have read this was a big issue for upgd to v6 for many in 2006, but i have v7 (7.6.2.9) so if anybody has any answers this would be helpful, i have downloaded plenty of software now in the last 48hrs and none has given me this msg but itunes. so i am isolating it to a itunes/apple issue.

thank you for your info. However this is the first step i tried and spent a whole day on. i already have the highest version listed on this method. the next up is 11.5 which is not listed, I have tried their steps in trying to find the required version while its running. but its not there and i am not able to find that. now if there is anyway to find that requirement through the software req on itunes that would be great but its not there either. I am currently feeling as though we have a peice of scrap now cause we will not be able to get this resolved. Thanks again, hope you have a good day:)

Itunes hasn't used InstallShield for some time, so it must be one of the uninstalls that is giving trouble. It may be possible to fix this by doing an manual removal and installer cleanup.

Here is a method for full removal of iTunes and related programs with cleanup if any of the uninstalls fail.

== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.

To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/

Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.

When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.

Restart your PC.

Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)

Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.

If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.

restart your PC

Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.

If it does, install iTunes.
