Greatest Hits Albums

i have a problem when i sync my ipod or iphone with 2 or more greatest hits albums. on itunes they are seperated the way they should be, but when i sync to my iphone or ipod, all of my greatest hits albums are in one album. how can i get them seperated. i know that changing the name of the album (greatest hits) will work, but is there another way?

I've just disovered this and it's an appalling problem.

After finally giving in and buying an Ipod, I've spent days tagging 10,000 plus Mp3s, getting the cover art to display properly, dealing with Itunes splitting compilation albums into one album per track and finally thought I'd got everything sorted.

Took it in the car yesterday and decided to have The Lightning Seeds - Best Of on. Hit play and what comes out of the speakers? Barry White!

A bit of investigation shows that every album with the title 'Best Of' has 189 tracks and contains every track from every album with 'Best Of' as a title. Even worse is albums called 'Greatest Hits' which have nearly 900 tracks each.

I cannot believe that such a problem is occurring. My old Creative Jukebox handled same named albums but with different artists without a problem.

They all display and play fine in the Itunes application but not on the Ipod itself. I am far from impressed and wonder what Apple are going to dop about such a basic error.

Given both Britney Spears and Take That are both releasing albums called Circus, the same thing will ocurr.

How does one raise a support ticket wih Apple?

I have said this before and I know I'm going to get commnets about it. If you want all the duplicates, syncing problems, iTunes deleting music from the hard drive, missing music, missing artwork etc etc to go away MANAGE ALL YOUR OWN MUSIC.

Turn off all itunes assistance, keep the iTunes music library empty (where you can) make you own music library folder and import that.

I started down this path over two years ago.

Number of duplicates installed by iTunes 0
Number of songs missing 0
Number of Artwork missing 0
Number of Albums mixed up 0
Number of songs deleted from iPod or hard drive 0
Number of Exclaimation marks 0

iTunes is a great program, but it is after all a computer program, if you want it to manage you instead of you managing it that's fine. Again I have said this time and time again, nearly all the people on this forum that have the problems listed above are letting iTunes manage and organise their libraries. If you take control of it yourself these issues will go away.

stubchain, I agree with you - that itunes option has bugs.

Since I've turned off "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized", I've had lots less problems, also.

I used to regularly get ! (file could not be found) on items that I had not moved nor recently played. They simply went missing because they had special characters in the album, song, or artist name. Such as Róisín Murphy, Fantômas, La Bohème....these particular entries in my library used to get ! marks on a regular basis, until I unchecked that option in itunes.

I agree, I'd never turn this option on or "consoldiate" the libray, but I have given in to putting all my media inside the iTunes Music folder to make it both portable and easy to back up. I'm also happy auto-syncing my library with selected playlists - works just fine.
