iM08 supports only 'import' of iMHD6 projects..

best practice is, to finalize your older projects in older versions of iMovie..
aside, you're entitled for a free download of iMHD6:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

probably, it handles the old files better.. (I doubt...)

    Basically you have four options:

As Karsten stated, you can download the complementary copy of iMovie HD (v6.0.4) and use iMovie HD to convert the original project to an HD compatible project package (if it can) which you could then
    a) Complete in iMovie HD
    b) Import to iMovie '08 using the project import option losing effects, titles, transitions, etc., or
    c) Output to an iMovie '08 compatible compression format and import as a simple "source" file.

    Alternatively, you could
    d) simply open the original project manually and transfer/import the original source files to iMovie '08 and begin anew.
