AppleCare

I have purchased a MacBook and am thinking of purchasing the AppleCare from someone on EBay. Do you see any problems with purchasing the AppleCare from someone on EBay? Do I only need a code from the seller of the AppleCare on EBay to the AppleCare activated? Thanks

I would personally never buy anything via eBay. Use oats are cheaper than new oats.

I am not sure it is even legal to resell AppleCare this way, but if AppleCare is important, then get it from Apple directly. eBay is not an authorized Apple reseller.

Note that eBay is NOT listed.

Someone want to explain how this works? That is, how does a random individual or business come to be selling AppleCare on a computer that they didn't sell? I have never heard of such a thing. Is there somewhere on Apple's web pages that acknowledges this, that says it's acceptable to buy AppleCare from a third party who have never seen your machine?

Are these computer dealers trying to make extra money? It all sounds fishy and a grey market sort of thing.

I've always wondered about that myself - where are they getting it and why is it that they sometimes have a dozen or more available? Obviously there is a profit being made.

As for buying it from a third party who's never seen my machine, that really doesn't matter. Applecare is a registration code for an iMac, MBP, or whatever, inside a nice little box - what matters is that you purchase the right one for the machine you have and you don't have to buy it at the same time you purchase your Mac - you have one year to do so, so even if you were to buy it at a local Apple store 6 months after your Mac purchase, they most likely would not remember you or your machine and gladly sell you whichever Applecare you ask for. Apple also suggests that you keep your receipt; I've gotten it twice over the years as a gift and informed Apple that I did not have a receipt and they accepted that explanation. I think it's a big money maker, especially if you don't need to use it.
