Kernel Panic os x 10.4.11

IMAC G5 2gb
After updating the system and QT 7.5.5 from the Apple Web page I began having what I thought were display problems and it advanced to "Kernel Panic" I have done 2 clean Tiger installs (4.0) and upgraded to 4.11, 3 times. The "get info" shows ITUNES 8.0.1 and QT 7.0. ITUnes will not launch stating "Itunes reqires QT 7.3.1 or better" Upgrading to 7.5.5 causes the Kernel panic. All has worked fine for years until what I think was the upgrade of QT. If I trash everything that spotlight says is Quicktime (7.5.5) then Tunes will launch. I am now perking along without being able to launch Itunes.

HELP

G5 IMAC (first build), Mac OS X (10.4.11), Disk Utility, Cocktail, Disk Warrior, and Hardware test indicate no trouble

AD: Thank you for your reply. I do not know if I actually NEED Itunes 8.0 and QT 7.5.5 and I would like to be able to backtrack both to the next level. We have an IPOD touch that requires syncing to ICAL. I cannot figure out how or find a path to go backwards. I attempted to take ITUNES backwards to 7.3.1 and when I installed it I did not get the expected "you have a newer version installed" message. It went thru the installation cycle and almost immediately instigated a Kernel Panic. I was able to "get info" on Itunes before it died and it showed 8.01 ???? I also found a download site for 7.45 but it indicated Leopard, not Tiger.

Mostly just needed if you buy Tunes & Movies at Apple's sight.

I don't know which way you want to go, Fix what you have, (I think we can get it working), or backtrack, but the surest way is to do an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

But very first thing...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.

The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.

After 2 weeks of agony I was able to determine the problem is/was in fact "Hardware" The symptoms that occurred on QT and IT were a coincidence as further testing proved. This is one of those 1st build G5 IMAC's that had Logic board and power supply problems and was fixed 3 times on extended warrantee. It worked fine for over 2 years after the last fix. I have determined the problem is in the logic board and is not caused by heat. Some is failing. I will be purchasing another Mac to replace it in the near future. Thank you for your replies.
