iPhone is locked with unknown passcode

I have someone that has a locked iPhone becasue they forgot was it was (believe me, it wasn't me!!). Is there a away to resolve this? Will syncing it to another computer take care of this. Suggestions? Thanks!!

Sony VAIO / HP laptop, Windows XP, G4 iBook / Gen1 iPhone

Passcode locks are there to keep data from being stolen. It would have to go into recovery mode.

Well, I clicked on the link you posted but it was for the iTouch and there was no explanation on putting it in recovery mode.

when in itunes sync mode try clicking reset to orginal settings. see if that works if not I suppose the battery will have to come out to reset it and that has to be done by apple

Either they forgot or stole the phone. Hold the HOME button while putting in the dock, and continue holding until something happens. This can take several minutes. This will completely wipe the phone. If it's stolen this won't do much good, because the IMEI has most likely been deactivated by the carrier.
