How do you delete songs from your playlist? The instructions say to highlight the song and then press the DELETE key, but this doesn't seem to work.

You can also: right-click > delete

Both works fine for me. What kind of playlist do you have?
I tested with a plain playlist, no smartlist or genious.

When I right click, there is no delete option. What is the problem? I want to get rid of the sample junk songs. Obviously, clicking on the song and then hitting the delete button doesn't work either. Thanks.

You can delete a song (or other item) from a library or from a plain playlist, but not from a playlist folder or from a smart playlist. If the song you wish to delete is in a playlist inside a playlist folder, make sure you select the playlist itself, not the playlist folder, on the left side of the iTunes window, and then you should be able to delete the item from the playlist.

Select a playlist , select the song and press Delete.

Same issue. iTunes 8.0.2.20. Windows XP. Dell Dimension E510.
Select a playlist (NOT a folder) on left of iTunes. Highlight song in the playlist. Right click does not give 'delete' option. Delete key does nothing. Backspace key does nothing. So I can't remove songs from playlists in iTunes, even though the tutorials say I should be able to do so.

For those using real computers, not (cr)Apples, you must press "Shift+Delete" to delete. There is no right-click option in XP when using itunes, proving, yet again, that cr(Apple) makes it harder, not better.

You can delete a song from a regular playlist by right click on the song and choose the delete option. Regular playlists have a music note in the icon to the left.

If you shift+delete you will delete the song from your *playlist AND LIBRARY*. The Shift+delete option can be used in smart and regular playlists.

If you want to limit the number of items in a smart playlist, there are options for that, right click on the smart playlist and select Edit Smart Playlist.

Right click option certainly works in iTunes on my XP machine and my wifes Vista machine. It just turns delete into a two part process giving you the option of removing from itunes and drive or just iTunes.

I know you are asking for Playlist help but I find sometimes "posters" say Playlist when they mean Library. In case that is the case here...

On the left-hand side of iTunes select Library>Music. Select the song you want to delete, then delete the song from menu Edit>Delete.

Use File>Show Duplicates to easily find duplicate songs. From time to time, press the "Show All" button (found on the bottom of iTunes application window, not in the file menu) then repeat File>Show Duplicates to refresh the list.
