Alt-Text Not There!

Wasn't sure where to post this - so here goes.

I am a new mac user - I have noticed both safari and FF don't display alt text when hovering over images.

Looking at the same sites on my laptop I see alt-tex

I have scoured the prefs and cant find anywhere to set this.

Have scored these forums and can only find discussion about how to delay the display of tool tips which I know is a related subject.

Have re-set the displaydelay to no avail.

I bet this is gonna be so simple!

It's not a browser requirement. Not all browsers will display alternate text. Some do, some don't.
Alternate Text is just that: It displays if your browser cannot display the image.

However, titles do appear with a mouseover on sites so programmed such as this:
http://www.bighappyfunhouse.com/
