Wireless Keyboard Problems

Hey All, I have the original Wireless White Keyboard, and in the past few days when I turn my iMac on the Bluetooth Utility comes up and it says that there is no keyboard connected. And from there I have to turn the keyboard off and turn it back on and then it connects and everything works. It does this almost every time I turn my iMac On. Is there a fix, or should I just get a new Keyboard? Thanks in Advance! Josh

Hi Josh,
I contacted Apple Care, spent two hours on the phone with them, trying about everything possible and no results. They thought they had it fixed but the problem returned again today when I turned on my computer. They thought it was related to my user preferences but after trashing the preferences and restarting when bluetooth came up, once again I had to turn off the keyboard and turn it back on before I could pair it with the computer. I guess I will call them back again next week. Let me know if you find out anything else. From what I have heard from Apple care is there are a lot of complaints about the keyboard.

Josh, I have been able to repeat the problem at least on my computer. If I do an automatic login at startup, bluetooth cannot find the keyboard and they don't pair. If I do a manual login then the keyboard comes up just fine. I tried eliminating some startup items but that wasn't the problem. Now I don't know why that is happening and I don't know if it is the same for you or not since we are on different machines and operating systems. Thought I would ask if you have tried that on your computer. Let me know. Perhaps we can post this as a different question and see if anyone would have an answer.

Josh, the wierdness continues with this thing. I was logging in manually for the past week so yesterday I decided to see if the problem was still there. I went back to Autolog and now it works and has been. But!!! other problems. The keyboard is typing extra letters at times (duplicted like thissssss) Safari has been crashing and it has never done that before. It even crashed the computer once and I had to power off with the start button and restart. I think I am going to post something in the hardware section about logic boards and see if there is a relation.

Josh, sorry I hit the wrong key and sent the message. Anyway, I called Apple Care again and explained all the problems I was having. He had me hook up a usb keyboard which I happen to have on another computer and it works just fine. They are going to send me a new keyboard and I guess I will see what happens. In the meantime, I am using the usb keyboard so I can see if any of the problems happen again. I should have the new keyboard sometime the first of next week. I will let you know how it goes. Maybe your keyboard is bad as well. Keep you posted.

Josh, wanted to give you an update on the keyboard thing. I got the new keyboard this week and have been using it for a couple of days. While the main problem seems to be fixed, it is not without some continued problems. I can type fine as long as the keyboard is in the correct position in relation to the computer. I used to have the keyboard on a keyboard tray and it was pushed in some under the desk as I type. It was a comfortable position for me. Now if the keyboard is too far under the desk in relation to the computer, it becomes sluggish and hard to type. So as long as I pull the keyboard tray out some it works just fine. Keep in mind, before the logic board issues on my iMac, I could put the keyboard anywhere in relation to the computer and had no problems typing. Now if it is not in a direct line of site, it will not work. Beats me!!! If you are still having problems I would definately recommend you go ahead and contact Apple and see if they would warranity the keyboard because that is part of the problem. But, it is not the entire solution in my opinion. Good luck,
Dave
